Mumbai: Former India captain Rohit Sharma was visibly upset after a couple of young fans misbehaved while trying to take selfies with him as he sat inside his car outside Mumbai’s Kalina Airport. A video of the incident, which has since gone viral on social media, has sparked widespread outrage among cricket fans.
The incident reportedly took place after Rohit returned to Mumbai with his family following his daughter Samaira’s birthday celebrations in Jamnagar. Several videos from the airport showed fans crowding around the star cricketer as he made his way to his car, highlighting the immense popularity he enjoys. However, one particular clip captured an uncomfortable moment when two young fans crossed the line.
According to the video, Rohit Sharma was seated in his car along with his wife Ritika Sajdeh and their children. As the vehicle began to move, Rohit lowered the window to wave at fans waiting outside. At that moment, two youths approached the moving car, attempted to grab his hand, and tried to take selfies with him. Rohit immediately pulled his hand back inside the car and, before rolling up the window, sternly warned the fans about their inappropriate behaviour.
The video triggered strong reactions on social media, with fans condemning the incident and calling for greater respect towards players’ personal space and safety. Many praised Rohit for handling the situation calmly but firmly.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is set to shift focus to cricketing duties as he prepares for the upcoming India–New Zealand ODI series, starting January 11. He recently featured for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26, scoring a brilliant 155 against Sikkim before being dismissed for a duck against Uttarakhand.
The Indian team will assemble for a training camp on January 6, marking Rohit’s first international assignment of the new year in the blue jersey.
Rohit had an outstanding 2025, leading India to the ICC Champions Trophy title and achieving several personal milestones. He became the world’s No. 1 ranked ODI batter for the first time, completed 20,000 international runs, and surpassed Shahid Afridi’s record for the most sixes in ODIs. After winning the T20 World Cup in 2024, Rohit retired from T20 internationals and bid farewell to Test cricket in 2025, continuing his legacy as one of India’s greatest modern-day cricketers.
