Rohit Sharma Reveals He Considered Quitting Cricket After 2023 World Cup Final Loss

New Delhi: Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma has revealed that he contemplated quitting cricket after India’s heartbreaking loss in the 2023 World Cup final. Speaking at the Masters Union event, Rohit described the defeat as one of the most challenging moments of his career, saying it left him feeling completely drained and defeated.

A Crushing Defeat:
India entered the 2023 World Cup as strong favorites and won 10 consecutive matches to reach the final. The team started the final against Australia with high intensity, but Australia eventually clinched the victory, leaving the entire nation in shock. Rohit, who led the team in the tournament, admitted that the loss made him question his future in cricket.

“I Had Nothing Left”
Rohit Sharma said, “After the 2023 World Cup final, I was completely devastated. It felt like the game had taken everything from me. I had no energy left, and for a few months, I struggled just to get back to normal. Personally, it was one of the toughest phases of my career because I had given my all as captain. Everything seemed lost, and I even thought about walking away from cricket.”

Bouncing Back in T20
Less than a year after the World Cup heartbreak, India, under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, won the 2024 T20 World Cup, securing the title after 17 years. Rohit reflected, “I realized life doesn’t end with a single loss. That period taught me a valuable lesson—how to deal with disappointment, regain confidence, and start afresh. It’s easy to say this now, but at that time, it was extremely difficult.”
