Raipur: Indian skipper Rohit Sharma missed out on achieving one of the greatest milestones in international cricket during the second ODI against South Africa at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium. Rohit, who needed just 41 runs before the match to complete 20,000 international runs, was dismissed for 14, delaying his entry into the elite club.
With this early dismissal, Rohit remains 27 runs shy of the landmark, forcing fans to wait until the third and final ODI of the series for the much-anticipated achievement.
A Rare Milestone in Sight
Once Rohit crosses 20,000 international runs, he will become only the fourth Indian cricketer to do so, joining legends Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Rahul Dravid.
Since his international debut in 2007, Rohit has amassed 19,973 runs in 504 matches at an impressive average of 42.46, including 50 centuries and 110 half-centuries.
The milestone would further cement his status as one of the greatest all-format batsmen India has ever produced.
Strong Form, One Setback
In the opening ODI at Ranchi, Rohit played a confident knock of 57 runs and also broke Shahid Afridi’s record for the most sixes in ODI cricket. With his current form looking strong, expectations were high for another impactful innings in Raipur.
However, a moment of misjudgment cost him dearly, pushing the milestone just out of reach—at least for now.
Eyes Now on the Series Decider
All attention now shifts to the third and final ODI, where fans eagerly await Rohit Sharma’s bid to join the elite 20,000-run club. Given his consistency and current rhythm, expectations remain optimistic that the Indian captain will script history in the next match.
