
The popular tennis tournament, the Australian Open, is set to begin on 18 January 2026. Ahead of the tournament, the organizers have announced a record increase in prize money.
The total prize pool for this year’s Australian Open has been raised by 16%, reaching AUD 111.5 million (USD 75 million)—equivalent to at least ₹6.75 billion in Indian currency. Last year, the prize money stood at AUD 96.5 million.
Winners of the men’s and women’s singles titles will receive AUD 4.15 million (USD 2.8 million) each, marking a 19% increase compared to 2025.
Australian Open Prize Money vs T20 World Cup
For comparison, the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 had a total prize pool of approximately ₹94 crore. India, which won the tournament by defeating South Africa in the final, received ₹20.37 crore. In contrast, winners of the Australian Open singles titles this year will take home over ₹25 crore, while runners-up will earn around ₹1.5 crore.
Upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026
The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 is scheduled to start on 7 February, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Reports indicate that the total prize money for the tournament will be USD 13.5 million.
India Announces Squad
The Indian team for the T20 World Cup was announced in December, with Suryakumar Yadav named captain and Axar Patel as vice-captain. Shubman Gill has been dropped from the squad.
