New Delhi: Former Indian cricket coach Ravi Shastri has come out strongly in support of veteran cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, hitting back at those questioning their place in the national team. Speaking in a recent interview regarding India’s strategy for the 2027 World Cup and discussions about senior players’ futures, Shastri emphasized that these stalwarts should not be underestimated.
Shastri Backs the Legends
Shastri stated, “Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are legends of One-Day cricket. You don’t mess with players of this calibre.” When asked about who was raising doubts about them, Shastri declined to name anyone, saying, “Some people are doing it. That’s all I’ll say.” He added that once these players regain full form and rhythm, those questioning their abilities will simply vanish from the scene.
A Strong Warning to Critics
Using Hindi to drive his point home, Shastri warned, “Aise khilaadiyon ke saath masti mat karo yaar,” meaning “Don’t mess with such players.” He further remarked, “If their minds are focused and the right buttons are pressed, everyone around will simply disappear.” His remarks underline the immense value of experience and skill that senior players like Kohli and Sharma bring to the team.
Legends of Indian Cricket
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been instrumental in many of India’s memorable victories and continue to have remarkable records in One-Day Internationals. While age and occasional dips in form have sparked discussions about giving younger players a chance, veterans like Shastri believe that the experience and leadership of these stalwarts remain crucial for India’s success on the international stage.
