Colombo: A major weather concern has emerged ahead of the much-awaited India vs Pakistan blockbuster match in the T20 World Cup 2026, scheduled to be played on February 15 at the iconic R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. With the Sri Lanka Meteorological Department issuing a warning of a developing low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, the highly anticipated clash could face disruption due to rain.

The possibility of a washout has sparked disappointment and anxiety among millions of cricket fans across the world, as this match remains one of the biggest attractions of the tournament.

Sri Lanka Weather Department Issues Alert

According to Sri Lanka’s Department of Meteorology, a low-pressure system is likely to form over the south-eastern Bay of Bengal around February 15. This development may lead to unstable weather conditions and rainfall in and around Colombo, raising fears that the contest could be affected.

Meanwhile, as per AccuWeather forecasts, there is a slight chance of rainfall around 5 PM, approximately two hours before the match begins. However, the forecast suggests that the weather during match time could remain largely cloudy.

The temperature is expected to hover around 27°C, while humidity levels may touch nearly 70%, conditions that could prove physically challenging for players.

Both Teams Unbeaten, Super-8 Qualification at Stake

Both India and Pakistan have been in excellent form in the tournament so far and remain unbeaten. India, after defeating the USA in their opening match, registered a commanding 93-run victory over Namibia. Pakistan, on the other hand, has also looked solid, securing back-to-back wins against the Netherlands and the USA.

With Super-8 qualification on the line, the upcoming match is expected to play a crucial role in determining the group standings.

India Holds Strong Record Against Pakistan in T20 World Cups

Historically, India has dominated Pakistan in T20 World Cup encounters. The two sides have faced each other eight times, with India emerging victorious on seven occasions. Pakistan’s only win came during the 2021 edition.

While India will aim to extend their dominance, Pakistan will be eager to rewrite history in what is expected to be a fiercely contested battle—provided the weather allows play to go ahead.
