PSL 2026 Reschedules Due to IPL, Multan Sultans Management Handled by PCB

New Delhi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a change in the schedule for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 season. According to PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi, the tournament will now commence on March 23, instead of the earlier planned March 26. The shift aligns the league’s opening with Pakistan Day, allowing for a grander and more memorable inauguration. The final approval of the revised dates will be made after discussions with all franchise owners. Notably, this adjustment also avoids a clash with the Indian Premier League (IPL), expected to start around March 26, making the decision strategically important.

Multan Sultans Ownership and Future
The future of PSL’s prominent franchise, Multan Sultans, has been clarified. Following the departure of former owner Ali Tareen due to disputes with the board, PCB will directly manage the team for the 2026 season. A fresh auction in 2027 will determine the team’s new ownership. The board has also left the door open for Ali Tareen to potentially invest in a new franchise in the future.

Wasim Akram Appointed PSL Brand Ambassador
Legendary former fast bowler Wasim Akram has been appointed as the brand ambassador for PSL, shortly after praising the league for offering thrilling cricket in a shorter format compared to IPL. Speaking at an event in London, Akram highlighted that PSL delivers intense excitement in less time, unlike longer leagues that “stretch on until kids grow up.” As brand ambassador, Akram will promote PSL globally and help expand its international reach.
