Pratika Rawal Receives Long-Awaited World Cup Medal Thanks to Jay Shah’s Intervention

New Delhi: Indian batter Pratika Rawal finally received her World Cup medal after being initially left out due to injury, bringing her to tears in a moment of sheer emotion. The 25-year-old had played a stellar tournament, finishing as India’s second-highest run-scorer, but a serious leg injury during the group stages against Bangladesh prevented her from participating in the semi-final and final. As per ICC rules, only the 15 members present in the final match were awarded medals, leaving Pratika without one.

The Indian women’s cricket team achieved a historic milestone by winning the World Cup for the first time, yet the absence of Pratika’s medal left a bittersweet note for both her and the team. Fans and cricket enthusiasts repeatedly asked, “Where is Pratika’s medal?” Calls to amend ICC rules were made, and now the demand has been fulfilled.

Jay Shah’s Personal Intervention

ICC Chairman Jay Shah personally ensured that Pratika received her medal. He reportedly messaged the Indian team manager, stating, “I am arranging for the medal to reach her.” Pratika confirmed to CNN-News18 that following Jay Shah’s message, she finally got her medal. “When I first held my medal, tears came to my eyes. I am not usually someone who cries easily, but this moment made me truly emotional,” she said.

Recognition During PM Modi’s Meeting

The medal was also visible in a group photo with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the team’s official visit to his residence in Delhi. It was initially thought that teammate Amanjot Kaur had lent her medal for the photo, but Pratika has now officially received her own medal.

Stellar Performance in the Tournament

Pratika scored 308 runs in 6 innings, including one century and one half-century, making her India’s second-highest run-getter after Smriti Mandhana. Her injury in the Bangladesh match led to Shafali Verma replacing her for the semi-final and final. Thanks to Jay Shah’s efforts, ICC rules were effectively amended, ensuring that Pratika’s contribution to India’s historic win was formally recognized.

This heartfelt gesture has finally given Pratika the recognition she deserves, leaving fans and teammates celebrating not just India’s World Cup victory but also justice for a deserving player.
