New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian Women’s Blind Cricket Team on their historic victory at the Women’s Blind T20 World Cup 2025, defeating Nepal by 7 wickets in the final. To honor the team, PM Modi hosted a dinner at Rashtrapati Bhavan on the evening of 27 November.
During the event, a lighter moment went viral when PM Modi asked the team’s captain, Deepika TC, about her singing habits. Surprised by the question, Deepika sang a Shiv Stuti for the Prime Minister. With a humorous remark, PM Modi said:
“You know, I am the MP from Kashi, so you reminded me of Shambhu.”
The remark had everyone in splits, and a video of the moment quickly spread across social media.
Captain Shares Her Experience
Deepika shared her excitement with ANI, saying,
“I had only gone to click a photo with Modi sir, and suddenly he asked if I sing. I was truly surprised and delighted.”
She also highlighted the PM’s appreciation of the team’s dedication and performance.
Special Gifts and Appreciation
The team gifted PM Modi a bat signed by all players, and also took his autograph on a special blind cricket ball used in matches. PM Modi praised the players for their teamwork, perseverance, and determination, personally served sweets, and extended his warm congratulations on their victory in the first-ever Women’s Blind T20 World Cup.
Emotionally Charged Moments
During the interaction, vice-captain Ganga Kadam became emotional remembering her late father. She said:
“My father was a fan of PM Modi. It was his dream that I achieve something big. If he could see this moment today, he would be extremely happy.”
PM Modi encouraged the team, saying:
“You have made your mark with hard work. Earlier, you might have hesitated to talk to a teacher from your village, and now you are speaking with the Prime Minister. I am proud of your courage.”
Dominating the Tournament
India participated alongside Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Australia, and the USA. The team remained undefeated throughout the tournament, winning all league matches, defeating Australia by 9 wickets in the semifinals and Nepal in the final.
PM Modi also humorously compared the team’s on-field dominance to political contests:
“Just as in elections, when an opponent’s security deposit is forfeited, people remark on your power, similarly you send players to the pavilion within a few overs. Why such cruelty?”
The team burst into laughter at the Prime Minister’s witty comment.
This victory not only marks India’s dominance in women’s blind cricket but also underscores the spirit, teamwork, and resilience of the players.
