Dubai: Ireland captain Paul Stirling has set a new milestone in men’s T20 International cricket by surpassing Indian star Rohit Sharma for the most matches played in the format. Stirling achieved this feat during his 160th T20I against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Thursday in Dubai, leaving Rohit Sharma behind in the record books.
Stirling’s Remarkable Career
Since making his debut in 2009, Stirling has been a cornerstone of Ireland’s batting line-up, known for his aggressive style and ability to dominate bowlers. He currently ranks fourth among all-time T20I run-scorers, amassing 3,874 runs, including one century and 24 fifties. Ahead of him are Pakistan’s Babar Azam, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli.
Teammate George Dockrell follows with 153 matches, while Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi (148) and England’s Jos Buttler (144) are next in line.
Power-Hitting and Match-Winning Ability
Stirling’s reputation as a power-hitter is well-earned. He excels at driving or pulling the ball over mid-wicket with remarkable strength and timing. His performances in the 2012 and 2013 World T20 Qualifier finals against Afghanistan highlighted his capacity to deliver in high-pressure situations.
Global Franchise Experience
Stirling’s explosive batting has also made him a sought-after player in franchise cricket around the world. He has featured in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), ILT20, SA20, and The Hundred, showcasing his adaptability across conditions and formats.
With this landmark, Paul Stirling cements his place as one of the most enduring and impactful T20I cricketers in the world, continuing to lead Ireland with skill and experience.
