Pakistani Fielding Blunders Continue in Big Bash League: Hasan Ali’s Error Goes Viral

Pakistani cricketers have once again grabbed headlines in the Big Bash League (BBL), but this time for all the wrong reasons. After Mohammad Rizwan’s ‘retired out’ incident, fast bowler Hasan Ali came under scrutiny for a major fielding lapse during the Melbourne Stars vs Adelaide Strikers match on Tuesday.

Hasan Ali’s Costly Mistake
Melbourne Stars were chasing a modest target of 84 runs, having lost 2 wickets for 35 runs in the 8th over. Tabriz Shamsi was bowling, and on his fifth delivery, the batter played the ball towards cover. Hasan Ali sprinted to stop the ball from reaching the boundary but misjudged its trajectory completely. Despite his efforts, the ball sailed past him for a boundary, which was confirmed by the third umpire. The incident quickly went viral on social media.

Rizwan Retired Out the Day Before
This mishap followed an unusual event a day earlier, when Mohammad Rizwan became the first foreign player in BBL history to be ‘retired out’. In the Sydney Thunder vs Melbourne Renegades match on Monday, Rizwan struggled to accelerate his innings, scoring 26 runs off 23 balls with two fours and a six. The Renegades called him back from the crease, and captain Will Sutherland replaced him.

Melbourne Stars Dominate
Tuesday’s match was one-sided, as Tom Curran’s brilliant bowling helped Melbourne Stars bowl out Adelaide Strikers for just 83 runs in 19.3 overs. By the end of the powerplay, Strikers were reeling at 21/4. A brief partnership between Jamie Overton and Liam Scott took the score near 40, but wickets kept tumbling, and the Stars sealed a comfortable victory.

The consecutive fielding blunders by Pakistani players—first Rizwan and now Hasan Ali—have sparked widespread criticism and amusement among fans, highlighting the high-pressure challenges of the BBL.
