Pakistan Faces Criticism for Double Standard: Will Play India in Rising Stars Asia Cup Despite T20 World Cup Boycott

Pakistan is drawing widespread criticism for its double standard regarding matches against India. While the country’s men’s team has announced a boycott of India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, the same team could potentially face India in the Women’s Rising Stars Asia Cup, which begins during the World Cup.

India-Pakistan Clash Scheduled in Women’s Tournament
According to ESPNcricinfo, the Women’s Rising Stars Asia Cup will commence on 13 February, with India and Pakistan scheduled to meet on 15 February in Bangkok. Pakistan’s women’s team has not received any instructions to skip this match, highlighting the inconsistency in Pakistan’s approach. Interestingly, the announcement to boycott India in the T20 World Cup coincided with India and Pakistan facing each other in the U19 World Cup Super Six match.

Pakistan Arrives in Sri Lanka for T20 World Cup
The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 starts on 7 February, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Pakistan has already arrived in Sri Lanka for the tournament and will play a warm-up match against Ireland on 4 February. Their T20 World Cup campaign officially begins on 8 February against the Netherlands.

If Pakistan maintains its stance to not play against India, the ICC could take strong action against the PCB. So far, the PCB has not officially informed the ICC of their intention to skip the India clash; only the Pakistan government has issued directives to the PCB. Whether Pakistan will ultimately play India—and what action the ICC will take if they don’t—remains to be seen.
