New Delhi: The IPL 2026 mini-auction is scheduled to take place on December 16 in Abu Dhabi, featuring only 350 players from an initial pool of 1,355 who registered for the auction. Nearly 1,000 names have already been excluded following extensive discussions between the BCCI and franchises.
Final List Includes 35 New Names
The final auction list includes 35 new entrants who were not part of the initial spreadsheet. Among these, South African wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock has made a surprising return. Having recently come out of international retirement, de Kock’s previous IPL season was underwhelming, leading Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release him. His base price for this auction has been set at ₹1 crore, half of last season’s amount, and he will feature in the third lot of the auction.
Auction Structure and Key Players
According to Cricbuzz, the auction will begin with capped players, categorized by specialization: batsmen, all-rounders, wicketkeepers, fast bowlers, and spinners. This will be followed by a round of uncapped players. Australian batsman Cameron Green is expected to attract significant interest in the first lot, alongside players like Devon Conway, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Sarfaraz Khan, Prithvi Shaw, and David Miller. Venkatesh Iyer has been included in the all-rounder lot.
Accelerated Round and Bidding Dynamics
As with previous auctions, an accelerated round will follow after the bids for the first 70 players are completed. From the 71st to 350th player, franchises will have the opportunity to make their selections in a faster-paced bidding process. Unsold players will then be open for additional bids as franchises finalize their choices.
