MS Dhoni Backs Team India, Warns About One Major Concern Ahead of T20 World Cup 2026

New Delhi: As Team India enters the T20 World Cup 2026 as one of the tournament favorites, former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has expressed full confidence in the squad but highlighted dew as a potential challenge in India’s evening matches.

India Eyeing Back-to-Back Titles

Dhoni led India to its first T20 World Cup triumph in 2007, defeating Pakistan in the final held in South Africa. Seventeen years later, India again won the tournament in 2024. As the defending champions, India aims to achieve the rare feat of winning back-to-back T20 World Cups, something no team has done so far.

Dhoni Praises Team India

Speaking at an event, the three-time ICC trophy-winning captain lauded the current Indian team:
“This is one of the most dangerous teams in the world. They have everything a top team should have, and especially in this format, they bring a lot of experience to the table.”

Dew Could Be a Game-Changer

Dhoni emphasized the impact of dew in night matches, which can make batting easier and pose challenges for bowlers, particularly while defending targets.
“The players in this Indian team have performed well under pressure. The one thing that concerns me is dew. I have always disliked it because it can change the course of the match. Even when I was playing, dew made the toss extremely crucial,” he said.

Evening Fixtures Could Increase Dew Factor

All of India’s matches in the T20 World Cup 2026 are scheduled to start at 7:00 PM IST, increasing the likelihood of dew affecting the pitch. Dhoni noted that chasing runs under such conditions can become easier, adding a strategic layer to India’s approach in defending targets.

India will look to leverage its experience and depth while keeping the dew factor in mind as it aims to defend its title successfully.
