MI Chase Second-Highest Target in WPL History, Defeat Gujarat Giants by 7 Wickets

In a high-scoring encounter of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026, Mumbai Indians defeated Gujarat Giants by 7 wickets on 13 January at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. With this victory, Mumbai continued their dominance over Gujarat in the league, handing them their eighth consecutive loss against MI.

Gujarat Giants, batting first, posted a competitive 192/5 in 20 overs, with Georgia Wareham top-scoring at 43. Bharti Phulmali remained unbeaten on 36 off just 15 balls, while Kanika Ahuja (35) and Beth Mooney (33) also contributed with crucial knocks. For Mumbai, Amelia Kerr, Nicola Carey, Hayley Matthews, and Shabnam Ismail claimed one wicket each.

Mumbai Indians successfully chased the challenging target, scoring 193/3 in 19.2 overs, marking the second-highest successful chase in WPL history. This was the first time MI had chased such a big total in the league.

Harmanpreet Kaur Leads with Captain’s Knock
Mumbai captain Harmanpreet Kaur played a captain’s innings, top-scoring with 71 not out off 43 balls at a strike rate of 165.12, hitting 7 fours and 2 sixes. Nicola Carey remained unbeaten with 38 runs off 23 balls, while Amanjot Kaur contributed 40 crucial runs. For Gujarat, Renuka Singh, Kashvi Gautam, and Sophie Devine took one wicket each.

This victory marked Mumbai’s second win of the season, following their opening loss to RCB. Meanwhile, Gujarat Giants suffered their first defeat of the season, unable to break their losing streak against Mumbai Indians.
