Kolkata: In a spectacular start to the India vs South Africa two-match Test series at Eden Gardens, Kuldeep Yadav created history by dismissing South Africa’s captain Temba Bavuma on the first day. This wicket marked a significant milestone in Kuldeep’s career and impressed fans worldwide.
A Historic Achievement
Kuldeep’s wicket of Bavuma made him the ninth Indian bowler across formats to take 150 international wickets on home soil, accomplishing this feat in just 87 innings. This milestone puts him alongside legends such as Anil Kumble, Ravichandran Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Kapil Dev, Javagal Srinath, Zaheer Khan, and Mohammed Shami.
Following Bavuma, Kuldeep also dismissed Wiaan Mulder, further strengthening India’s position. With South Africa struggling at 6 wickets down for just 150 runs, Kuldeep’s spin has already turned heads, alongside Jasprit Bumrah’s pace bowling.
Career Highlights
The 30-year-old Kuldeep Yadav made his debut for India in all three formats – Test, ODI, and T20 – in 2017. Before this match, he had played 15 Tests, 114 ODIs, and 49 T20s, taking 68 Test wickets, 182 ODI wickets, and 88 T20 wickets. In the IPL, Kuldeep has taken 102 wickets in 98 matches, currently representing Delhi Capitals.
This landmark performance against South Africa cements Kuldeep Yadav’s status as one of India’s most reliable and game-changing spinners.
