The two-match Test series between India and South Africa has taken an unexpected turn ahead of the second Test in Guwahati. South Africa’s star spinner Simon Harmer, who was the hero of the Kolkata Test, has been taken to the hospital.
Harmer Injured After Match-Winning Performance
In the first Test at Kolkata’s iconic Eden Gardens, India suffered a shocking defeat by 30 runs. Chasing a modest target of 124, the hosts collapsed for just 93.
South Africa’s victory was powered by their experienced off-spinner Simon Harmer, who dismantled India’s batting line-up with a brilliant 8-wicket haul across both innings. His match-winning spell also earned him the Player of the Match award.
However, just days before the second Test, Harmer had to be taken to a private hospital in Kolkata.
Shoulder Injury Raises Doubts Over Availability
According to a RevSportz report, Harmer has suffered a shoulder injury. The severity of the injury is still unclear. He was admitted for further medical assessment on Tuesday, and the team is awaiting detailed reports.
Notably, Harmer sustained the injury while fielding during the first Test.
With the second Test starting on 22 November, his availability remains uncertain.
Marco Jansen Also Taken to Hospital
A report from News18 CricketNext revealed that South African all-rounder Marco Jansen was also taken to the same hospital. Jansen is reportedly suffering from a throat infection. He too played a key role in Kolkata, taking 5 wickets in the match.
South Africa’s Historic Win After 15 Years
South Africa’s victory in Kolkata marked their first Test win on Indian soil in 15 years. Their previous triumph came in 2010 in Nagpur, where they defeated India by an innings and 6 runs.
