In a spectacular performance against New Zealand, Virat Kohli played a brilliant knock of 93 runs to guide India to a four-wicket victory in the first match of the three-match ODI series. His stellar innings earned him the Player of the Match award, but it was his heartfelt words off the field that truly captured attention.
Kohli Sends Awards to His Mother
Speaking about his journey and achievements, Kohli expressed deep humility. He revealed that he does not keep track of his awards and accolades himself, but instead sends them to his mother in Gurgaon, who cherishes and preserves these accomplishments. Reflecting on his cricketing journey, Kohli appeared emotional and described his career as a “dream come true.” He said, “I have always believed in my abilities and have worked very hard to reach where I am today. God has blessed me far more than I imagined. I am grateful from the heart and feel immense pride in myself.”
On Records and Strategy
When asked about records and match strategy, Kohli candidly admitted that he does not focus on milestones while on the field. According to him, experience matters most, and his sole aim is always to lead the team to victory. Batting at number three, he explained, his approach is to put pressure on the opposition from the outset. “As soon as I walked to the crease, I knew I could dominate the Kiwi bowlers, and I did exactly that,” he said. Kohli emphasized that his style of chasing targets is central to his game, and had India batted first, his approach may have been even more aggressive.
Cricket Beyond the Field
Kohli also connected his love for the game with human emotions. He acknowledged the ups and downs that come with cricket, both for himself and his teammates, and stated that he takes these naturally. For him, the greatest satisfaction comes from being able to bring joy to millions through his performances.
