Ireland Announce Squad for T20 World Cup 2026; Paul Stirling Named Captain

New Delhi: Ireland have announced their 15-member squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, set to begin on February 7. Experienced batter Paul Stirling will lead the team as captain, with Lorcan Tucker appointed as vice-captain.

Group Stage and Fixtures
Ireland has been placed in Group B, alongside Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Oman, and Australia. Their campaign kicks off against Sri Lanka on February 8. This will mark Ireland’s ninth appearance in a T20 World Cup. The team’s best previous performances came in 2009 and 2022, when they qualified for the second round and secured wins over former champions West Indies and England.

New Faces in the Squad
The squad features three newcomers: Tim Tecktor, Ben Kalitz, and Matthew Humphreys. Out of the 15 players, 12 retainers were part of the previous World Cup squad, providing a blend of experience and youth.

Joshua Little Gets the Nod
Fast bowler Joshua Little (26), who has previously played in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has been included. Little made his IPL debut in 2023 with Gujarat Titans, featuring in 11 matches and claiming 11 wickets. He debuted for Ireland in T20 cricket in 2016 and in ODIs in 2019. To date, he has played 74 T20s and 42 ODIs for Ireland, taking 82 T20 wickets and 61 ODI wickets, making him a key asset for the Irish bowling attack.
