IPL Auction Miss, But Devon Conway Hits Back with a Record 227 in Test

In the IPL 2026 mini-auction, Devon Conway went unsold, leaving many fans and franchises surprised. However, the New Zealand opener made a spectacular statement just days later by scoring a commanding 227 against the West Indies in the third Test, silencing all critics.

Record-Breaking Partnership
Conway and Tom Latham forged a 323-run partnership for the first wicket, setting a new benchmark as the highest opening stand in World Test Championship (WTC) history. This partnership also surpassed the 317-run record previously held by India’s Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal against South Africa in 2019.

Conway’s Second Double Century
This innings marked Conway’s second double century in Test cricket and his career-best score. He became only the second New Zealand opener to score a double century against the West Indies, after the legendary Glenn Turner. Conway’s 227 is also the third-highest individual score by a New Zealand batsman against the West Indies, trailing only Turner’s 259 and Kane Williamson’s 251.

Impressive Stats

  • Runs: 227
  • Balls faced: 367
  • Boundaries: 31
  • Venue: Mount Maunganui, New Zealand

Unfazed by IPL Setback
Despite being unsold in the mini-auction, Conway’s performance reaffirmed his value and showcased why he has been a crucial player for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in previous seasons. His remarkable innings not only contributed to New Zealand’s massive total of 575/8 but also established new records on home soil for any opening partnership in Tests.

Conway’s sensational return serves as a reminder to all franchises that true talent can never be overlooked.
