IPL 2026: Mustafizur Rahman Will Not Receive Any Money After KKR Decision, Bangladesh Board’s Mistake Leads to Franchise Lottery

In an unexpected turn of events, Bangladesh’s fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman will not receive any payment from either Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) or the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) following a decision to exclude him from IPL 2026. The decision comes after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) withdrew its No Objection Certificate (NOC) for Mustafizur’s participation in the tournament.

Rahman was bought by KKR for a whopping ₹9.2 crore during the IPL 2026 auction after a fierce bidding war with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). However, due to the ongoing violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, the BCCI directed KKR to drop Rahman from their roster, and as a result, the fast bowler will no longer participate in this year’s IPL.

No Compensation for Rahman

According to sources, Mustafizur Rahman will not receive any payment from KKR or the BCCI. The IPL players’ salaries are insured, and in cases where foreign players are injured during training camps or the tournament, the franchise usually compensates them through insurance, with coverage of up to 50%. However, since Rahman’s exclusion was not due to injury or any disciplinary issue, the standard insurance provisions do not apply in this case.

An IPL insider clarified, “Rahman’s situation does not fall under the typical insurance provisions as he is being excluded for reasons unrelated to injury or misconduct. Therefore, KKR has no obligation to compensate him in any form. Unfortunately, his legal recourse is limited as IPL matters fall under Indian jurisdiction.”

Bangladesh Cricket Board’s Regret

In a further blow to Rahman, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has now also withdrawn its NOC, which was required for his participation in the IPL. This move has significantly weakened Rahman’s position, leaving him with no formal option for recourse except potentially taking legal action.

This situation is a reminder of how crucial board approvals are for players seeking to participate in foreign leagues like the IPL. With the BCB’s withdrawal of support, Mustafizur Rahman now faces a bleak future, both financially and professionally, in relation to this year’s IPL.
