IPL 2026 Mini Auction: Nikhil Chaudhary to Make Waves After Australia Stint

New Delhi: The IPL 2026 mini-auction is set for 16 December, where bids will be placed on 350 shortlisted players from a pool of 1,355 registered participants. Among them, one name is attracting considerable attention — Nikhil Chaudhary, an all-rounder who has been playing domestic cricket in Australia but has registered for the IPL auction as an Indian player.

From Australia to IPL:
29-year-old Nikhil Chaudhary has been a notable performer in Australian domestic cricket, including the Big Bash League (BBL). Despite playing abroad, he has entered the IPL auction as an Indian uncapped player. Details on how he qualifies for this status have not been officially clarified by either the BCCI or Chaudhary himself. His last appearance in Australian domestic cricket was on 7 December.

Player Profile:
Chaudhary is a right-handed batsman and leg-spinner, making him a genuine all-rounder. He has been listed at set number 35 in the auction with a base price of ₹40 lakh.

Journey from India to Australia:
Chaudhary made his domestic debut for Punjab in 2017, representing India for three years but missing out on IPL opportunities. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he moved to Australia on a travel visa and continued his cricketing career there. Strong performances in club cricket led to his recommendation for the BBL, and he was signed by the Hobart Hurricanes for the 2023–24 season.

Big Bash and First-Class Records:
In 36 T20 matches, Chaudhary has scored 538 runs and taken 16 wickets. In 20 BBL games, he contributed 386 runs, often playing crucial middle-order innings. He also made his first-class debut for Tasmania this year, scoring 367 runs in 5 matches at an average of 46, alongside 5 wickets. His highest score in professional cricket stands at 163 runs.

Chaudhary’s return to the IPL is expected to generate excitement among franchises, with analysts predicting a bidding frenzy for the talented all-rounder.
