New Delhi, December 15, 2025: The IPL 2026 player auction, scheduled to be held in Abu Dhabi, is set to feature a surprise entry: Bengal’s talented opener Abhimanyu Easwaran. Initially absent from the shortlist, Easwaran has now been included, raising excitement among fans and franchises alike.
Out of 1,390 players who registered for the auction, 350 were shortlisted. Recently, 9 additional players were added to the auction list, and reports from Cricbuzz suggest that Easwaran is among them. The Bengal captain had a base price of ₹30 lakh, but he initially missed out on the auction shortlist. A franchise reportedly pushed for his inclusion, making him one of the late entries for the auction. The BCCI is expected to announce the final list of these additions during a franchise briefing on Monday evening.
Easwaran, traditionally regarded as a red-ball specialist, has yet to feature in the IPL. However, he has been in superb form in the current Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy season, scoring 266 runs at a strike rate of 152. Against Punjab, he hammered 130 runs off 66 balls, including 8 sixes, and followed it up with 58 runs against the Army team. The 30-year-old now has 1,242 T20 runs at an average of 39 and a strike rate of 133, including two centuries and six fifties.
Easwaran has been part of the Indian squad multiple times but is yet to make his international debut. In first-class cricket, he has amassed 8,136 runs in 109 matches at an average of 48, with 27 centuries and 34 fifties. In List A cricket, he has scored 3,857 runs at an average of 47 with a strike rate of 82.
With his proven batting credentials and recent T20 exploits, Easwaran’s inclusion adds a fresh dimension to the IPL 2026 auction, making him a player to watch.
