Injured Team India Star Spotted Playing Gully Cricket on Mumbai Streets

India’s rising cricket star Sai Sudharsan has once again won hearts—this time away from the stadiums. Despite nursing a rib fracture, the young left-handed batter was recently spotted playing gully cricket with local youngsters on the streets of Mumbai, a moment that quickly went viral on social media and showcased his deep-rooted passion for the game.

The video, shared on Instagram, shows Sudharsan batting like any other neighbourhood cricketer, smiling and enjoying the moment. At one point, he is heard cheerfully asking, “Aur ek ball daal do na” (Bowl one more ball), a line that resonated strongly with fans and cricket lovers across the country.

Playing Through Passion, Not Pain

Sudharsan sustained a rib fracture last year during the Vijay Hazare Trophy while attempting a quick single and diving to make his ground. Doctors have advised him to take six to eight weeks of rest, but his brief appearance in gully cricket reflects not recklessness—rather, an unbreakable emotional bond with the sport.

Fans have lauded his grounded nature and love for cricket, calling the moment a reminder that even international cricketers remain connected to the streets where their journey began.

Impressive Domestic and International Record

Before his injury, the 24-year-old Tamil Nadu batter was in outstanding form. In his last four List A and T20 innings, he scored 51, 48, 101, and 64, underlining his consistency and class.

Sudharsan made his Test debut for India in 2025 against England and has since played six Test matches, scoring 302 runs, including two half-centuries. In ODIs, he has also made an impact, registering two half-centuries in just three innings.

India vs New Zealand T20 Series Update

Meanwhile, Team India is currently engaged in a five-match T20 series against New Zealand. The visitors secured their first win of the series by defeating India by 50 runs in the third T20 at Visakhapatnam. Despite the setback, India continues to lead the series 3–1.

In a positive development, Ishan Kishan, who was rested in the previous match due to a minor injury, is likely to return for the final encounter.

Final World Cup Rehearsal

The fifth and final T20 will be played on Saturday, January 31, in Thiruvananthapuram. This match will serve as India’s last international outing before the T20 World Cup, which begins on February 7.

India will kick off its World Cup campaign on the opening day at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium against the USA, and the team will be eager to carry winning momentum and confidence into the global tournament.

Sai Sudharsan’s gully cricket moment, meanwhile, stands as a powerful reminder: form may fluctuate, injuries may come and go—but true love for the game never fades. 🏏
