India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup Match Still Possible, Former PCB Chairman Suggests Solution

The status of the highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash in the T20 World Cup 2026 remains uncertain, following Pakistan’s announcement that they will not play against India. However, former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi has indicated a possible route for the match to take place.

Scheduled Clash on 15 February in Colombo
The much-awaited match between India and Pakistan is set for 15 February at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium. Cricket fans around the world have been eagerly waiting for this showdown. Despite Pakistan’s statement on social media, the PCB has not officially communicated its decision to the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Najam Sethi Offers a Way Forward
Speaking to India Today, former PCB chairman Najam Sethi suggested that if Bangladesh is included in the tournament, the India-Pakistan match could still happen. “In my view, if Bangladesh can be invited to play in Sri Lanka, it’s not too late. There are many matches taking place there already,” Sethi said.

Pakistan’s Decision Was Deliberate
Sethi explained that Pakistan’s choice not to play India was made after careful consideration. “The PCB leadership examined all possible outcomes and consulted legal experts both domestically and internationally. They are satisfied with their decision,” he said.

He further noted that in the past, Pakistan had little support due to BCCI’s stance, but the situation is now changing. “The biggest issue has been BCCI’s approach, which has pressured other cricket boards at every stage. Previously, Pakistan stood alone while other boards supported India. Now, the dynamics are shifting. Bangladesh is being overlooked, and together, Pakistan and Bangladesh represent over 400 million people,” Sethi added.

With these developments, cricket fans will be watching closely to see if the India-Pakistan encounter can be reinstated ahead of the T20 World Cup.
