India Makes History, Clinches 2025 Squash World Cup with Stunning Victory Over Hong Kong

Chennai, December 15, 2025: India has scripted history by winning the 2025 Squash World Cup, marking the first time an Asian country has claimed the prestigious title. In a dominant performance, India defeated Hong Kong 3-0 in the final, following a journey of impeccable victories throughout the tournament.

The Indian mixed team, featuring Joshna Chinappa, Abhay Singh, and Anahat Singh, displayed exceptional skill and teamwork. Joshna Chinappa set the tone by defeating world No. 37 Li Ka Yee 3-1 (7-3, 2-7, 7-5, 7-1). Abhay Singh followed with a 3-0 (7-1, 7-4, 7-4) win over world No. 42 Alex Lau, and the 17-year-old Anahat Singh sealed the title with a 3-0 (7-2, 7-2, 7-5) triumph against world No. 31 Tomato Ho. National men’s singles champion Velavan Senthilkumar did not need to play, as India had already secured the trophy.

The tournament featured 12 countries, including Australia, Brazil, Egypt, Hong Kong, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, Poland, South Africa, and Switzerland. India, seeded second, remained unbeaten from the group stage to the final, defeating Switzerland and Brazil 4-0 in the group stage, South Africa 3-0 in the quarterfinals, and two-time champion Egypt 3-0 in the semifinals.

The 2025 edition holds special significance as squash will make its Olympic debut in Los Angeles 2028. India’s triumph not only ends the nation’s wait for a World Cup title—having lost in the semifinals in 2023—but also establishes India as a rising powerhouse in international squash.

Since the inaugural Squash World Cup in 1996, which was won by Australia, the title has changed hands among several nations, including England and Egypt. India’s historic victory adds a new chapter to this legacy.
