The Indian cricket team sealed the 5-match T20 series against South Africa with a commanding 30-run victory in the final game, winning the series 3-1. After a spectacular batting display, India’s bowlers stepped up to dominate, ensuring a comprehensive triumph.
India set a formidable target of 232 runs, finishing at 231/5 in their allotted 20 overs. South Africa, despite a strong start, fell short at 201 all out. While South Africa had earlier taken the Test series 2-0, India bounced back to win the ODI series 2-1 and now the T20 series, marking a significant turnaround.
Bumrah and Chakarvarty Turn the Tide
Chasing 232, Quinton de Kock gave South Africa an explosive start with a 65-run knock off just 35 balls, featuring 9 fours and 3 sixes. He was ably supported by Dewald Brevis, who scored 31 off 17 balls. But India’s bowlers, led by Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakarvarty, delivered crucial breakthroughs. Bumrah conceded only 17 runs in his 4-over spell while picking 2 wickets, and Chakarvarty claimed 4 wickets in 4 overs. Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh chipped in with a wicket each to seal the victory.
Hardik-Tilak Firepower Lifts India
India’s innings was defined by a blistering partnership between Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma, who added a 105-run stand for the fourth wicket. Hardik became the second-fastest Indian to reach a T20 half-century, scoring 63 runs off 25 balls, including 5 fours and 5 sixes. Tilak contributed 73 runs off 42 balls, hitting 10 boundaries and a six.
Earlier, Abhishek Sharma (34) and Sanju Samson (37) gave India a flying start, putting up 63 runs in just six overs. Samson, making the most of a chance due to an injured Shubman Gill, showcased his credentials ahead of next year’s T20 World Cup selection. Despite being dismissed just before completing a big knock, Samson had already made a mark with his aggressive strokes, including a towering six off Marco Jansen.
Hardik’s final six off the innings caused a minor on-field mishap, hitting a broadcast team member and bouncing into the crowd, adding drama to an already thrilling encounter.
With this win, India not only wraps up the T20 series convincingly but also sends a strong message ahead of the upcoming international fixtures, showing a perfect balance of explosive batting and clinical bowling.
