Ahmedabad: Team India will look to register a commanding victory against the Netherlands in their upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 match on Wednesday in Ahmedabad. The match holds special significance for star opener Abhishek Sharma, who is still searching for his first run in the tournament after back-to-back ducks.
Abhishek, considered one of India’s most destructive batters in the shortest format over the last 18 months, has failed to make an impact so far in the ICC event being played on home soil. After opting for Kuldeep Yadav as an additional spin option in Colombo in place of Arshdeep Singh, India is expected to return to a combination featuring two specialist fast bowlers.

Known for his fearless approach, Abhishek has often been India’s match-winner in T20 cricket. However, his record of four ducks in his last six innings suggests that he may need to reassess his powerplay strategy. Opposing teams appear to have done their homework, placing fielders in areas where Abhishek prefers to target—particularly the deep cover boundary and deep midwicket region.
Abhishek himself has admitted that he does not possess as wide a range of shots as some other batters and instead relies heavily on using the crease and strong bat swing to dominate bowlers. With field placements tightening, he will need to adapt quickly if he is to return to his best.
