Team India continued their dominant form ahead of the T20 World Cup by thrashing South Africa by 30 runs in their first warm-up match. The victory highlights India’s readiness as they aim to defend the title on home soil.
India Post Massive Total
Opting to bat first, India put up a formidable 240/6 in 20 overs, thanks to explosive contributions from Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma. Kishan, opening in place of Sanju Samson, set the tone with a blistering 53 off just 20 balls, including seven sixes. He smashed 22 runs off the last four balls of Enric Nortje’s over (6, 6, 4, 6) and added 80 runs for the first wicket with Abhishek Sharma (24 off 18 balls), giving India a flying start.
Tilak Varma continued the assault after Kishan’s retirement, hitting 40 off 16 balls with three towering sixes, while captain Suryakumar Yadav kept the momentum going with aggressive stroke play all around the park. Hardik Pandya’s cameo in the final overs helped India reach a commanding total of 240.
South Africa Fight Back but Fall Short
South Africa responded with intent, posting 210/5 in their 20 overs. Ryan Rickelton struck 44 off 21 balls, and Aiden Markram scored 38 off 19, while Jason Smith (45) and Tristan Stubbs (45*) ensured a competitive reply. However, Varun Chakravarthy’s crucial wickets, including Rickelton, proved decisive. Abhishek Sharma also chipped in with 2 wickets for India.
India’s Momentum Ahead of the World Cup
India’s emphatic performance in the warm-up match sends a clear message to other teams: the defending champions are in top form and ready to take on the T20 World Cup with full force.
