IND vs SA Day 2 Highlights: Bowlers Dominate as India Edges Closer to Victory in Kolkata Test


The second day of the Kolkata Test between India and South Africa was dominated by bowlers, continuing the trend from the first day. While 11 wickets fell on Day 1, Day 2 saw 15 more batsmen dismissed. In South Africa’s second innings, the visitors are 7 down for 93, with a lead of just 63 runs.


India’s Bowling Power Shines

Day 2 highlighted the supremacy of India’s spin attack. After being bowled out for 189 in their second innings, India had a modest lead of 30 runs from the first innings. South Africa, which managed 159 runs on Day 1, struggled again, with no batsman crossing 40 runs.

Shubman Gill forced to retire hurt
India faced early trouble after Yashasvi Jaiswal fell for 12 in the second innings at 18/1. KL Rahul then steadied the innings, adding 57 runs with Washington. Washington fell for 29 off 82 balls, while Rahul contributed 39 runs. Captain Shubman Gill, batting at number four, scored a boundary before retiring hurt due to a neck issue, ending India’s innings at 189.

South Africa’s Simon Harmer was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4 wickets, while Marco Jansen claimed 3.


Jadeja Leads Spin Charge in Second Innings

South Africa’s second innings began poorly. Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Ryan Rickelton LBW for the first blow. Ravindra Jadeja then starred, taking four wicketsAiden Markram (4), Wiaan Mulder (11), Tony Jorgie (2), and Tristan Stubbs (5)—leaving South Africa struggling.

Axar Patel also contributed by bowling Kyle Verreynne for 9. Marco Jansen attempted aggressive shots but fell for 13 to Kuldeep. Captain Temba Bavuma remains unbeaten on 29 off 78 balls, supported by Corbin Bosch on 1. Jadeja has picked up 4 wickets so far, Kuldeep has 2, and Axar 1.


With the batsmen struggling and bowlers in top form, India is now on the verge of a home victory, setting up an exciting finish for the Kolkata Test.
