Ishan Kishan’s Spectacular Innings
Ishan Kishan reached his half-century in just 21 balls, contributing significantly to India’s powerplay score of 75—India’s second-highest in the powerplay against New Zealand, after the 76 scored in Johannesburg in 2007. Kishan scored 76 runs off 32 balls, hitting 11 fours and 4 sixes. His partnership of 122 runs was broken by leg-spinner Ish Sodhi in the 10th over.
Suryakumar Yadav also played a brilliant innings, remaining unbeaten on 82 from 37 balls, with 9 fours and 4 sixes. All-rounder Shivam Dubey added 36 runs off 18 balls, including 4 boundaries. Thanks to these remarkable performances, India chased down a challenging target of 209 runs in just 15.2 overs, taking a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
Why Suryakumar Was Frustrated with Ishan
During the post-match presentation, Suryakumar Yadav said, “I’m not sure what Ishan had for lunch, but I’ve never seen anyone bat so aggressively when the team was 6 for 2 and the powerplay ended with the score just over 60. We want our batsmen to play freely. I was a little frustrated that he wasn’t giving me the strike during the powerplay, but I understood the pitch conditions.”
Captain on Team Atmosphere
Reflecting on his own innings, Suryakumar Yadav added, “I had been batting well in the nets, got a good break, and practiced well before the match. The effort from the bowlers was incredible. When they were 110 for 2, I thought the score would cross 230, but all the bowlers took responsibility together. I’m thoroughly enjoying what’s happening. The team atmosphere is very positive, and I want to keep it that way.”
