New Delhi: Indian ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer had a close call with a fan’s dog at the airport ahead of India’s upcoming series against New Zealand. The incident, captured on video, has gone viral on social media.
A Fun Yet Frightening Moment
Iyer, fully fit and ready to make his return to the national side, was seen interacting with fans while preparing for the first ODI of the series starting January 11. As he attempted to pet a dog held by a nearby woman, the animal suddenly lunged at him. Alert and quick to react, Iyer pulled his hand back just in time, avoiding a bite.
Form in Domestic Cricket
Iyer has been in good form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, representing Mumbai. Against Himachal Pradesh, he scored 82 runs off 53 balls, including 10 fours and 3 sixes, and followed it up with 45 runs off 34 balls against Punjab. His performances indicate he is match-ready for the ODI series against New Zealand.
Career Overview
A key batsman for India in limited-overs cricket, the right-hander has played 73 ODIs, scoring 2,917 runs at an average of 48 with a strike rate of 99. His tally includes 5 centuries and 23 fifties, highlighting his consistency in the middle order.
Comeback from Injury
Iyer had suffered an injury on the Australia tour while taking a catch. Diving backward to take a catch from Alex Carey, he sustained a stomach injury and was hospitalized in Sydney for several days. Fully recovered now, he is expected to play a pivotal role in India’s batting lineup against New Zealand.
