IND vs NZ: Rohit Sharma Needs Just Two Sixes to Break Shahid Afridi’s Record

Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma has a golden opportunity to break a long-standing record held by Pakistan legend Shahid Afridi in the second ODI against New Zealand. The veteran batsman needs just two more sixes to surpass Afridi’s tally against the Kiwis.

Rohit had a modest outing in the first ODI, scoring 26 runs and hitting two sixes. The second match of the series will be played on 14 January at Rajkot’s Narendra Modi Stadium. This fixture presents Rohit with a chance to etch his name further into the record books.

Afridi holds the record for hitting the most sixes in ODIs against New Zealand, having struck 50 sixes in 35 innings across 38 matches between 1996 and 2015. Rohit Sharma has already hit 49 sixes against New Zealand in 30 innings over 32 matches. Two sixes in Rajkot will make him the highest six-hitter against New Zealand in ODIs.

Leading Six-Hitters Against New Zealand in ODIs:

  • Rohit Sharma – 49 sixes
  • Chris Gayle – 45 sixes
