Michael Bracewell is leading New Zealand in their ODI series against India. The Kiwi all-rounder has expressed his desire to see Indian stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli play in the 2027 World Cup.
Will Rohit and Virat Feature in the 2027 World Cup?
India’s batting stalwarts, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, are in the twilight of their careers. Both have retired from T20 Internationals and continue to play only ODIs. The upcoming 2027 World Cup, to be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, has cricket fans eager to see the duo in action. Michael Bracewell has now joined the list of admirers wishing to witness them in the tournament.
Bracewell on Rohit and Virat:
Speaking at the Wellington Sports Club in Mumbai, Bracewell said, “I would love to see them (Virat and Rohit) play in the World Cup. They are still performing very well, so I see no reason for them to stop. Their records speak for themselves, both individually and for the team. They have been part of some of the best Indian teams and have led from the front with their batting. Underestimating them would be foolish.”
The New Zealand tour of India begins on 11 January, starting with the ODI series, followed by a T20 series.
On playing in India, Bracewell added, “Whenever we come to India, the crowds are huge. I really enjoy the love people have for cricket here. I feel the support when we play well, which is rare in many other places. Playing here and testing myself against some of the world’s best players is always a pleasure.”
Bracewell’s India Connection:
34-year-old Bracewell has an impressive ODI record, scoring 912 runs and taking 37 wickets in 40 matches. His highest ODI score of 140 came against India. Notably, he has also played alongside Virat Kohli for RCB in the IPL.
