IND vs NZ: Abhishek Sharma’s Selfless Act Helps Suryakumar Yadav Reach Fifty in Third T20 Victory

Guwahati: India continued their dominant run in the T20 series against New Zealand by winning the third match at the Barasapara Stadium, Guwahati, by 8 wickets. The target of 154 runs was chased down in just 10 overs, with both Abhishek Sharma and captain Suryakumar Yadav scoring crucial half-centuries.

Sharma’s Contribution Enables Yadav’s Fifty
Suryakumar Yadav’s unbeaten fifty was made possible thanks to Abhishek Sharma’s presence and guidance at the crease. With India needing 7 runs from 2 balls in the 10th over, Sharma encouraged Yadav to finish the match. Yadav struck a four on the penultimate ball to complete his fifty and sealed the match with another boundary on the final delivery. While Sharma could have finished the game himself, he chose to motivate his captain, highlighting his team-first approach.

Yadav Finds Form Ahead of T20 World Cup
This marked Yadav’s second consecutive T20 fifty, after struggling with form for some time. Concerns had been raised over his performance leading up to the T20 World Cup, but he seems to have regained rhythm. Yadav had scored 82 in the previous match of the series, and his last T20 international fifty before that came against Bangladesh in October 2024.

Power-Hitting Partnership Seals Victory
Chasing 154, India turned the match into a one-sided affair through aggressive batting. Sharma remained unbeaten on 68 off just 20 balls, hitting 7 fours and 5 sixes, while Yadav contributed 57* from 26 balls, including 6 fours and 3 sixes. Together, they put on an unbroken 102-run partnership for the third wicket in just 40 deliveries, leading India to 155/2 in 10 overs and extending their series lead to 3-0.
