IND vs NZ: 94-Metre Six, 29 Runs in an Over — Shivam Dube Unleashes Rohit Sharma–Like Carnage

Despite India’s 50-run defeat against New Zealand in the fourth T20I, Shivam Dube produced a breathtaking counter-attacking innings that lit up the ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium and emerged as the biggest positive for the hosts ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

Chasing a daunting target of 216, India were in deep trouble at 63 for 4 when Dube walked in. With the top order collapsing like a house of cards, the left-hander took it upon himself to revive the chase and launched a fierce assault on the New Zealand bowling attack, striking the ball to all parts of the ground.

Ish Sodhi Bears the Brunt

The highlight of Dube’s onslaught came against experienced leg-spinner Ish Sodhi. In a single over, Dube smashed 29 runs, including three towering sixes and two boundaries. One of those maximums travelled an astonishing 94 metres, leaving spectators and bowlers alike in disbelief. Earlier in his innings, Dube had already signalled his intent by launching a 101-metre monster six off Mitchell Santner.

That over placed Dube in elite company, as he equalled Rohit Sharma’s record of scoring 28 runs off a single over in T20 Internationals. A wide delivery from Sodhi took the total to 29 runs, making it one of the most expensive overs in international T20 cricket.

Lightning-Fast Fifty

Dube brought up his half-century in just 15 balls — the third-fastest T20I fifty by an Indian batter. Only Yuvraj Singh (12 balls) and Abhishek Sharma (14 balls) feature ahead of him on the list. His knock was a stunning exhibition of power-hitting, timing and confidence under pressure.

Overall, Dube scored 65 runs off just 23 balls, striking at an incredible rate of over 280. His innings included seven sixes and three fours and briefly tilted the momentum in India’s favour.

A Lone Warrior Effort

While India ultimately collapsed after Dube’s unlucky run-out and were bowled out for 165, his innings stood out as a reminder of his value in the middle order. With wickets falling around him and little support from the lower order, Dube fought a lone battle to keep India in contention.

Although the result went New Zealand’s way, Shivam Dube’s explosive knock has significantly strengthened his case as a middle-order enforcer ahead of the T20 World Cup. At a time when India are searching for firepower and composure in pressure situations, Dube’s performance in Visakhapatnam could prove to be a defining moment in his T20I career.
