IND vs NZ 2nd T20I Highlights: Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav Run Riot as India Chase Down 209 in 16 Overs

Raipur: India produced a stunning batting masterclass to defeat New Zealand by seven wickets in the second T20I at Raipur, chasing down a massive target of 209 runs with a staggering 28 balls to spare. The emphatic win handed Team India a 2–0 lead in the five-match T20 series and marked one of the most dominant run chases in Indian T20I history.

After being put in to bat first, New Zealand posted a competitive 208 for 6 on the board. India’s reply, however, began on a shaky note. Both openers—Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma—were dismissed with just six runs on the board, leaving the hosts under early pressure. What followed next was a breathtaking counter-attack led by Ishan Kishan and captain Suryakumar Yadav that completely turned the match on its head.

Walking in at No. 3, Ishan Kishan wasted no time in taking charge. India scored 24 runs in the third over, swinging the momentum firmly in their favour. Kishan brought up his half-century in just 21 balls, powering India to 75 runs inside the batting powerplay. He looked well set for a century before being dismissed for a scintillating 76 off 32 balls, an innings studded with 11 fours and four sixes.

Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav added a match-defining 122 runs for the third wicket in just 48 balls. Even after Kishan’s dismissal, the onslaught continued. Suryakumar reached his half-century in 23 balls and remained unbeaten on 82 off 37 deliveries, smashing nine fours and four sixes in a trademark “Mr 360” display. Shivam Dube provided the finishing touches with a quickfire 35 off 17 balls, including one four and three sixes, as India sealed the chase in the 16th over.

Earlier, New Zealand had made a flying start at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium. Devon Conway set the tone by taking 18 runs off Arshdeep Singh’s opening over and repeated the assault later. Conway and Tim Seifert added 43 runs in just 3.2 overs for the opening stand before both fell in quick succession. Conway scored 19 off nine balls, while Seifert made 24 off 13 deliveries.

Rachin Ravindra then anchored the innings, adding 55 runs with Glenn Phillips for the third wicket and later accelerating to score 44 off 26 balls, including four sixes and two fours. Captain Mitchell Santner played a crucial cameo from No. 7, forging vital partnerships with Mark Chapman and Zachary Foulkes to propel New Zealand past the 200-run mark.

For India, Kuldeep Yadav picked up two wickets, while Hardik Pandya, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakravarthy and Shivam Dube chipped in with one wicket each.

In the end, the contest turned into a one-sided affair as India registered a joint-highest successful run chase in T20 internationals. Powered by the explosive brilliance of Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav, the hosts delivered a clear statement of intent, leaving New Zealand searching for answers as the series moves forward.
