Raipur: The Indian cricket team secured a commanding 7-wicket win over New Zealand in the second T20I, with Ishan Kishan’s explosive batting turning the tide. Chasing a challenging target of 209, India faced early pressure after losing both openers cheaply—Sanju Samson scored 6 runs, and Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for a golden duck.

Ishan Kishan Shines Under Pressure
Coming in at number three, Ishan Kishan played a fearless innings, dominating the New Zealand bowlers. In just 32 balls, he smashed 76 runs, including 11 fours and 4 sixes, maintaining a strike rate above 200. His blistering knock laid the foundation for India’s rapid chase.

Suryakumar Yadav’s Support and Celebration
Captain Suryakumar Yadav remained composed at the other end before accelerating with Kishan. The duo stitched together a 122-run partnership off 48 balls, completely shifting the momentum in India’s favor. When Ishan eventually fell to Ish Sodhi, Suryakumar warmly embraced him as he returned to the pavilion, acknowledging the impact of his innings.

Coach Gautam Gambhir Joins the Celebration
During the drinks break, coach Gautam Gambhir came onto the field and patted Ishan on the back, congratulating him on his extraordinary performance. The entire team greeted Kishan as he walked off, reflecting the camaraderie and recognition for his match-turning contribution.

New Zealand’s Effort
Earlier, New Zealand had posted a competitive total of 208 for 6 on a batting-friendly pitch. Devon Conway and Tim Seifert gave the visitors a strong start, but India fought back through crucial wickets by Kuldeep Yadav in the middle overs. Rachin Ravindra and captain Mitchell Santner ensured New Zealand crossed the 200-run mark, with Santner remaining unbeaten on 47.

India’s emphatic win not only gave them a 2-0 lead in the five-match series but also showcased the explosive form of their key batsmen ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup.
