Just months ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has handed a major blow to USA cricket by provisionally suspending star batter Aaron Jones over alleged violations of the Anti-Corruption Code. The suspension comes into immediate effect, barring Jones from participating in all forms of cricket until further notice.
According to the ICC, the action relates to alleged corruption during the 2023–24 BIM10 League held in Barbados. Jones has been charged with multiple breaches of the anti-corruption codes of both Cricket West Indies (CWI) and the ICC. The governing body has accused him of failing to report corrupt approaches to the relevant authorities and of not cooperating fully with the investigation into the alleged offences.
In an official statement, the ICC said:
“The ICC has charged USA player Aaron Jones with five breaches of the Cricket West Indies and ICC Anti-Corruption Codes. The charges primarily relate to the 2023–24 BIM10 tournament, which falls under the jurisdiction of the CWI Anti-Corruption Code, while two additional charges are connected to international matches and are governed by the ICC Code.”
The ICC further clarified that Jones has been provisionally suspended from all cricketing activities with immediate effect. He has been given a period of 14 days, starting from January 28, 2026, to respond formally to the charges laid against him.
Aaron Jones is one of the most prominent faces of USA cricket and was part of the American squad that impressed at the 2024 T20 World Cup, reaching the Super 8 stage on debut. His suspension comes as a significant setback for the team’s preparations ahead of the upcoming global tournament.
In terms of career statistics, Jones has represented the United States in 53 One-Day Internationals and 48 T20 Internationals. He has scored 1,664 runs in ODIs and 770 runs in T20Is, along with picking up eight wickets in the shortest format. His most memorable performance came in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he smashed an unbeaten 94 against Canada, the highest score of his international career. Jones last featured in an international match in April last year, also against Canada.
The case will now be closely watched as the ICC’s investigation continues, with potential long-term consequences for both the player and USA cricket.
