I Need to Learn More About My Off-Field Conduct: Harry Brook

Pallekele (Sri Lanka), Jan 31: England’s limited-overs captain Harry Brook has admitted that he still has a lot to learn about his conduct off the field, following an incident in October last year at a nightclub in Wellington. Brook revealed that he had concealed the full truth of the altercation from his teammates in order to protect them.

Speaking to reporters in Pallekele, Sri Lanka, Brook said, “I recognise that my behaviour off the field is something I need to work on and understand better. There are lessons to be learned, and I am committed to doing so.”

The incident in question occurred last October, when Brook was involved in a dispute at a Wellington nightclub, which he initially described to the media as a situation in which he was punched by a bouncer while alone. Later disclosures indicated that the reality of the event had been partially withheld from his team at the time.

Brook acknowledged that being in the public eye as a professional cricketer brings with it a responsibility to maintain high standards of conduct, both on and off the field. “Cricket is not just about what happens on the pitch,” he said. “It’s about representing your team, your country, and yourself with integrity at all times.”

This candid admission comes ahead of England’s limited-overs series in Sri Lanka, with Brook highlighting the importance of personal growth and learning from past mistakes. He stressed that the episode has been a valuable lesson in accountability and managing situations responsibly while under public scrutiny.

Team management has reportedly accepted Brook’s explanation and continues to back him, emphasizing that the incident was a learning opportunity rather than a disciplinary issue. Brook himself has expressed a commitment to setting an example for younger players in terms of off-field behaviour and professionalism.
