New Delhi: India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has emerged as one of the biggest talking points of the T20 World Cup 2026, delivering match-winning performances and making a strong comeback into Team India. After his blistering knock against Namibia, Kishan revealed that a major change in his personality and mindset has played a crucial role in his recent success.
Kishan, who smashed a sensational 61 off just 24 balls, admitted that he has become more serious, calm, and focused—both on and off the field—after experiencing the highs and lows of his career.
“Now I Focus More, Not Just Fun and Jokes”
Speaking after the match, Kishan openly acknowledged that losing his central contract and facing career setbacks forced him to rethink his priorities.
“I used to joke around all the time earlier, but now I don’t do that 24 hours anymore. I have become more serious about my batting and wicketkeeping,” Kishan said.
He also added in a lighter tone that under the guidance of Gautam Gambhir, he has understood the importance of discipline and maintaining the right attitude at the highest level.
Powerplay Destruction and a Smarter Batting Approach
In the absence of opener Abhishek Sharma, Kishan played a vital role in giving India their highest-ever powerplay score in T20 World Cup history, helping the team reach 86/1 in the first six overs.
Explaining his improved approach, Kishan said he now tries to remain composed even if he plays a few dot balls, believing that pressure situations should be handled with patience rather than panic.
He stressed that playing two or three dot deliveries should not create unnecessary tension, especially in a strong batting lineup where big shots can come at any moment.
Instead of throwing his wicket away in frustration, Kishan now prefers to wait for the right ball and build his innings with better control.
Kishan Overtakes Sanju Samson in Wicketkeeper Race
With his consistent performances and fearless strokeplay, Ishan Kishan has now strengthened his position as India’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batter, moving ahead of Sanju Samson in the selection race.
His ability to dominate bowlers was clearly evident when he smashed four sixes in a single over off JJ Smit, showcasing not only raw power but also improved maturity and technical stability.
While Sanju Samson had been groomed as a long-term wicketkeeper option over the past two years, Kishan’s hard work and remarkable form have helped him surpass the competition and establish himself as a key player for India in the ongoing World Cup.
