New Delhi: India’s cricket superstar Rohit Sharma, famously known as the “Hitman,” made 2025 a year to remember with his exceptional captaincy and batting exploits. While he bid farewell to Test cricket, his performances in ODIs and IPL left fans and record books in awe.
ICC Trophy Triumph
Rohit led India to victory in the 2025 Champions Trophy, adding another ICC title to his cabinet. After the 2024 T20 World Cup, he became only the second captain after MS Dhoni to win ICC trophies in both ODI and T20I formats. In the final against New Zealand, his 76-run captain’s innings earned him the Player of the Match award, making him the fourth captain in history to achieve this in an ICC final.
ODI Records Galore
Rohit smashed boundaries against cricketing giants like Australia and South Africa:
- 50 International Centuries: By scoring a century at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) against Australia, he joined Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli as the third Indian to achieve this milestone.
- ODI King in Australia: That century also made him the player with most ODI centuries in Australia (6), surpassing Kohli and Sangakkara.
- Sixes Master: In the South Africa series, he broke Shahid Afridi’s record of 351 ODI sixes, now standing at 355.
IPL 2025 Milestones
Even with a lighter international workload, Rohit dominated the IPL:
- 7,000 Runs Club: He became the second batsman after Virat Kohli to score over 7,000 IPL runs, currently at 7,046.
- Triple-Century Sixes: Rohit became the first Indian and second overall (after Chris Gayle) to hit 300 IPL sixes, now at 302.
Despite early-season doubts from critics, Rohit Sharma’s Champions Trophy victory and record-breaking feats silenced all naysayers, ending 2025 as a golden chapter in the Hitman era.
