From CSK Nets to Mumbai Indians’ Spotlight: Meet Bihar’s Fast Bowling Sensation Mohammed Izhar

In a surprising turn of events at the IPL 2026 auction, Mumbai Indians (MI) filled all five of their remaining squad slots despite having just ₹2.75 crore left in their purse. Among these signings, Bihar’s promising fast bowler Mohammed Izhar has emerged as the talk of the town.

CSK Roots: Nets to Recognition

Mohammed Izhar, 21, first gained attention as a net bowler for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during IPL 2025. Training alongside seasoned bowlers and top-tier batsmen, Izhar honed his skills and gained valuable experience, including exposure to MI in CSK’s opening match of that season. Now, he joins MI, where he is expected to feature in matches against his former mentors.

IPL Debut Potential

Although Izhar has not yet played an IPL match, his impressive domestic performances have paved the way for opportunities. MI’s squad already includes the formidable Trent Boult, but Izhar’s addition offers a fresh pace option and the potential to share the workload in high-pressure matches. Signed for ₹30 lakh, he is among MI’s three uncapped players chosen in the auction. Analysts believe MI may give him a chance in upcoming games, particularly to manage Boult’s workload.

Shining in Domestic Cricket

Izhar made a significant mark in the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) while representing Bihar Under-23s. In five matches, he has claimed 9 wickets at an average of 15.55 and an economy rate of 7.11, including a standout performance of 4 wickets for 39 runs against Madhya Pradesh. This debut season at a high level has showcased his talent and potential as a rising star in Indian cricket.

Journey from Humble Beginnings

Born into a modest family, Izhar’s father, Maulana Salauddin, is a primary school teacher and mosque imam. Poverty forced Izhar to leave home at 17 to pursue training at Kosi Cricket Club. His mother has expressed immense pride in his journey, noting that she never imagined her son would make it to the IPL.

Dreaming Big

Mohammed Izhar’s goal is clear: to one day wear the Indian team’s blue jersey. The IPL 2026 season with Mumbai Indians could be his first step toward fulfilling that dream and making the country proud.
