Fixing Scandal Rocks Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Four Assam Players Suspended

Guwahati: The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has suspended four players with immediate effect following allegations of corruption during the 2025 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, sparking a major controversy in Assam’s cricketing circles. The BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) has launched a formal investigation, and an FIR has been registered with the Guwahati Crime Branch.

Players Suspended:
The suspended players—Amit Sinha, Ishan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi, and Abhishek Thakur—are accused of influencing and inciting fellow Assam team members to engage in match-fixing or other corrupt practices during the T20 tournament held in Lucknow. ACA described the allegations as seriously impacting the integrity of the sport.

According to ACA’s official statement:
“Prima facie, the involvement of the above four players in serious misconduct affecting the integrity of the sport is evident. The decision to suspend them is aimed at preventing further deterioration of the situation.”

Restrictions During Suspension:
During the suspension period, the four players cannot participate in any state-level tournaments, matches, or cricket-related activities organized by ACA, district units, or affiliated clubs. This includes coaching, umpiring, or match refereeing. The suspension will remain in effect until the completion of the investigation or until ACA decides otherwise. District cricket associations have been instructed to strictly enforce this order and notify clubs and cricket academies under their jurisdiction.

BCCI Investigation:
The BCCI’s ACSU, responsible for preventing corruption and maintaining the fairness of cricket, has taken immediate action to investigate these allegations. The swift response highlights the seriousness of the matter and the governing body’s commitment to ensuring transparency and integrity in Indian cricket.

Context:
This incident adds to the ongoing battle against corruption in Indian cricket. Over the years, several players have faced allegations of match-fixing and other unethical practices, resulting in strict disciplinary action. The emergence of such allegations in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, one of India’s premier domestic T20 tournaments, is a cause for concern for cricket authorities and fans alike.
