
New Delhi: New Zealand’s explosive opener Finn Allen has created history in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, breaking India’s Abhishek Sharma’s world record and becoming the fastest batter in the world to complete 5000 runs in T20 cricket.
The record-breaking feat came during the 11th match of the tournament, played between New Zealand and UAE at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, where the Kiwi side produced a dominant performance and defeated UAE by 10 wickets.
New Zealand Chases 174 with Ease
After winning the toss, UAE chose to bat first and posted a competitive total of 174 runs. However, New Zealand’s opening pair Tim Seifert and Finn Allen made the chase look effortless.
The duo completed the target in just 15.2 overs, sealing a one-sided victory and strengthening New Zealand’s position in the tournament.
Finn Allen’s Blazing Knock
Finn Allen played a match-winning unbeaten innings, smashing 84 runs off 50 balls at a strike rate of 168. His explosive knock included:
- 5 fours
- 5 sixes
Allen’s fearless approach completely dismantled the UAE bowling attack, leaving the opposition with no chance to defend their total.
Fastest to 5000 T20 Runs – World Record
During this innings, Finn Allen also achieved a major milestone by completing 5000 runs in T20 cricket.
He reached the landmark in just 2854 balls, making him the fastest player ever to score 5000 T20 runs.
The previous world record was held by India’s Abhishek Sharma, who had reached 5000 runs in 2898 balls.
With this achievement, Allen has now officially surpassed Abhishek Sharma and etched his name into the record books.
Another Record: 100 T20I Sixes in Quick Time
Apart from breaking the 5000-run record, Finn Allen also registered another major milestone. He became the third fastest batter in T20 International history to hit 100 sixes, reaching the mark in 871 balls.
In the list of batters with the fastest 100 T20I sixes, Allen now stands behind only:
- Evin Lewis – 789 balls
- Karanbir Singh – 848 balls
Allen’s Red-Hot Form Continues
Finn Allen has been in sensational form in recent months. After impressive performances in the Big Bash League, he continued his strong run in New Zealand’s series against India, and now he has carried the same momentum into the World Cup.
His explosive batting has already made him one of the most dangerous openers in the tournament.
