New Delhi: Delhi’s batting sensation Dhruv Shorey continued his phenomenal run in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, equalling a world record by scoring five consecutive List A centuries. Playing for Vidarbha, Shorey showcased his exceptional form in the group stage clash against Hyderabad on 26 December, helping his team secure a comprehensive 89-run victory.
Spectacular Knock Against Hyderabad
Batting at number three for Vidarbha, Shorey faced 77 balls, smashing 6 sixes and 9 fours to score 109 runs. His innings not only guided Vidarbha to a massive total but also cemented his place among List A cricket’s elite performers.
Matching N. Jagadeesan’s Record
With this achievement, Shorey has matched the record of Tamil Nadu’s N. Jagadeesan, who previously held the record for five consecutive List A centuries during the 2022-23 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Shorey, who has also represented Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, now joins an exclusive list of cricketers achieving this rare feat.
Match Summary
Hyderabad’s captain won the toss and chose to bowl first. Vidarbha posted 365/5 in their innings, largely thanks to Shorey’s century. In response, Hyderabad was restricted to 276 all out in 49.2 overs, falling short by 89 runs. Shorey’s brilliance earned him the Player of the Match award.
A Record of Consistency
Prior to Shorey, cricketers like Karun Nair, Devdutt Padikkal, Kumar Sangakkara, and Alviro Peterson had scored four consecutive centuries, with Sangakkara being the only one to achieve this in international cricket. Shorey’s performance underlines his consistent mastery in domestic cricket and marks him as a future star in Indian cricket.
