Devdutt Padikkal Makes History with 91-Run Innings in Vijay Hazare Trophy

Ahmedabad: Karnataka’s star batter Devdutt Padikkal continued his red-hot form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26, smashing 91 runs against Rajasthan and etching his name in cricketing history. Despite falling short of a century, Padikkal’s remarkable consistency has made him the first player ever to score 600 or more runs in three different Vijay Hazare Trophy seasons.

Historic Performance
At just 26, Padikkal has amassed 605 runs in 6 matches this season alone. In previous seasons, he scored 609 runs in 11 matches (2019-20) and 737 runs in 7 matches (2020-21), setting a record no other batter has achieved in the tournament’s history.

Season Highlights
Padikkal’s dominating run-scoring spree in the current Vijay Hazare Trophy includes:

  • Jharkhand: 147 runs
  • Kerala: 124 runs
  • Puducherry: 113 runs
  • Tripura: 108 runs
  • Rajasthan: 91 runs

Only in the match against Tamil Nadu did he fail to reach a fifty or century, showcasing his remarkable consistency throughout the tournament.

IPL and International Career
Padikkal has also represented India in 2 Test matches and 2 T20 Internationals, scoring 90 and 38 runs respectively. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), he has played 74 matches, scoring 1 century and 11 fifties for a total of 1,806 runs, establishing himself as one of the premier young talents in Indian cricket.

Devdutt Padikkal’s outstanding performances this season further underline his potential to become a mainstay in India’s limited-overs and IPL cricket.
