Despite a modest return of just 40 runs in four matches, India’s wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson continues to enjoy the full confidence of the team management in the ongoing T20 International series against New Zealand.
India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak acknowledged that Samson is going through a difficult phase but made it clear that there is no doubt about the senior batter’s ability or commitment. Speaking to the media on the eve of the fifth and final T20 match, Kotak emphasized that fluctuations in form are an inevitable part of a cricketer’s career.
“Sanju is a senior player. He may not have scored as many runs as everyone expects, but this is part of the game. Sometimes you score heavily in five consecutive innings, and sometimes you go through a tough patch,” Kotak said.
Full Support from Team Management
Kotak reiterated that the team management is firmly standing behind Samson during this challenging period. “It all depends on how strong a player is mentally. Our role is to ensure that he stays positive. He is practicing well and working hard. We all know what Sanju is capable of. I don’t think there is much more to say about him—he has consistently shown his quality,” he added.
Hard Work Behind the Scenes
Ahead of the decisive encounter, Samson was seen spending close to 30 minutes in the nets at the Greenfield Stadium, working diligently on his batting. The right-hander practiced against multiple bowlers and also faced left-arm spinner Axar Patel, striking several confident shots. He was also observed in discussion with head coach Gautam Gambhir and bowling coach Morne Morkel, underlining the coaching staff’s close engagement with him.
Valuable Preparation Ahead of World Cup
Kotak further noted that the New Zealand series, along with the preceding series against South Africa, has been extremely valuable in India’s preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
“This has been a very important series for us. It is extremely useful because, ahead of a World Cup, you start finding rhythm, experimenting with combinations, and giving players opportunities,” the batting coach said.
As India looks to wrap up the series on a strong note, the backing of the team management suggests that Sanju Samson remains a key part of the squad’s plans—trusted not just for his talent, but for the experience and resilience he brings to the side.
