Deepti Sharma on the Verge of Historic Record in T20I Cricket

New Delhi: Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma is poised to make cricket history in the ongoing T20I series against Sri Lanka. The star player, who played a key role in India’s Women’s World Cup 2025 triumph, needs just two more wickets to reach 150 T20 International wickets. Achieving this milestone will make Deepti the first cricketer—male or female—to claim 150 T20I wickets and score over 1,000 runs in the format.

An Unmatched All-Round Feat

Deepti has already taken 148 wickets in 81 T20I innings while amassing more than 1,100 runs. Her remarkable performance in the World Cup final, where she scored a fifty and took five wickets, underlines her immense value to the Indian team. In comparison, Bangladesh’s former captain Shakib Al Hasan came close in men’s cricket, scoring 2,551 runs and taking 149 wickets in T20Is, but he never had the opportunity to reach 150 wickets. Among Indian men, Hardik Pandya is the closest contender with 2,002 runs and 101 wickets in 124 T20Is.

Dominating Women’s Cricket

No other female all-rounder has come close to Deepti Sharma’s record. Australia’s Ellyse Perry is the nearest, with 2,173 runs and 126 wickets in T20Is. Deepti also has the chance to become the world’s No. 1 T20I bowler; she needs just four more wickets to surpass Australia’s Megan Schutt, who currently holds the record with 151 wickets. With Schutt unlikely to play any T20Is until February 2026, Deepti is well-positioned to claim the top spot in the upcoming match.

A Historic Opportunity

Deepti could have achieved the 150-wicket milestone in the second T20I against Sri Lanka, but she missed the match due to fever. She is expected to play in the third match of the series, where cricket fans anticipate witnessing her historic feat live. Deepti Sharma’s accomplishments are not just milestones—they are groundbreaking records that no male cricketer has ever achieved, highlighting her dominance in the world of T20 International cricket.
