Deepti Sharma Becomes World’s No.1 T20I Bowler; Smriti Mandhana Loses Top Spot in Batting Rankings

India’s all-rounder Deepti Sharma has achieved yet another milestone, becoming the world’s No.1 T20I bowler in the latest ICC rankings. The announcement came on Tuesday, bringing changes for several Indian players in both batting and bowling categories.

Deepti Tops Bowling Rankings

With a rating of 737 points, Deepti Sharma narrowly edged out Australia’s pacer Annabel Sutherland, who has 736 points, to claim the top spot. Deepti’s rise to No.1 is credited to her excellent performance in India’s T20I series against Sri Lanka, where she picked up 1 wicket for just 20 runs in the opening match.

The 28-year-old off-spinner had previously played a match-winning role in India’s historic victory at the 2025 Women’s World Cup, scoring a crucial fifty and taking 5 wickets in the final against South Africa. India’s pace bowler Arundhati Reddy also rose 5 spots to reach 36th in the rankings, while spinner Shree Charani made a spectacular leap of 19 places to reach 69th.

Changes in Batting Rankings

In batting, South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt claimed the No.1 spot, taking it from India’s vice-captain Smriti Mandhana, who slipped to third position. Wolvaardt’s rise comes after consecutive high-scoring performances against Ireland, including 124 runs in two matches and an unbeaten 100-run innings. Wolvaardt now has 820 rating points, nine ahead of Mandhana, marking her career-best ranking.

Meanwhile, India’s Jemimah Rodrigues, who scored a match-winning 69* off 44 balls against Sri Lanka in Visakhapatnam during the World Cup semi-final, jumped 5 places to 9th in the T20 batting rankings. Shafali Verma dropped one place to 10th, remaining in the top 10 despite the change.

Other notable movements include Ireland captain Gaby Lewis, who jumped 4 places to 18th, and teammate Amy Hunter, who rose 3 places to 28th.

Deepti Sharma’s rise as the world’s leading T20I bowler and the shifts in Indian women cricketers’ rankings reflect India’s growing strength in international women’s cricket.
